Very First Kitchen Design

My very first project of the school year was a kitchen that met ADA requirements for a wheelchair user.  Looking back there are many things I would change ranging from layout, to material choices. Designing a kitchen was very fun and it was a good learning experience before we jumped into bathroom design.  There were several goals at the beginning of the project.  Firstly, I wanted it to reflect the colors of the Palouse.  Secondly, it had to relate to my concept which was all about the protection of the home, and the home as a warm place of security. Thirdly, I wanted the kitchen to be connected to the living room, dining room and entry.  Since in today's world the kitchen is the gathering place of the house it was important to me that it remain visually connected to the space.  This will allow the space to seem bigger and more opportunities to host groups and have good social interaction. In my final layout of the Gregory Apartment I plan to change the counter layout and work triangle to make it more efficient.
