The Tiram Bench

The design concept for my bench was inspired by my found object and the elements and principles of design that I pulled from it.  In my initial exploration of my found object I noted characteristics such as contrasting elements, like color and texture, and the layered look it has.  The elements and principles of design that I identified led to the creation of a concept that had earthy tones, layered pieces, and irregular edges revolving around a clean joint.  In my final bench design I created a bench that had parallel pieces of wood (Teak) with two concrete forms at either end.  This represented the smooth surfaces on my found object that contrasted with the layered clay on the inside.

Creating a design that I was happy with for this bench was frustrating and I did not find a design I liked right away.  After many chip board study models and analysis' of my concepts I finally developed a bench design I liked.
